A Summary of China-Sanya RFC aka CIRFC 2010

19 Aug 2010: After the end of the Prologue SS today, the forest route will begin and then there will not be any news until 24 Aug when everyone′s back again in Sanya city.

18 Aug 2010: Big Bang razzmatazz opening ceremony in Sanya City for the 2nd edition of China–Sanya Int Rainforest Challenge (CIRFC). After three days of non–stop rain, what a relief D–Day was bright and sunny.

15 Aug 2010: Sanya City, Hainan, P R of China.Looking over the view of the South China Sea from Longxin Seaview Hotel in Sanya, all is looking good, calm and clear sky. Yesterday, dark clouds also brought heavy rain showers which soak everyone and everything on sight as the RFC marshal teams prepared the finishing touch to the Prologue Special Stage area.

6 Aug 2010: The press conference held at Hainan State Guest House in Haikou was the venue that kicks off the RFC China campaign. Most of state events and activities are held at this prestigeous venue and RFC China is included as a unique sports tourism event not only for Sanya, Hainan but for the whole of China. Present at the launch were the Director of Sanya Govt Sports Bureau Sanya Govt State Secretary, Chairman of International 4x4 Off-Road Rainforest Challenge Club (Lu Dajin) and the Founder of RFC (Luis J.A.Wee) and state officials.

19 − 31 July 2010: The loading of the mean machines for the coming Battle of China began in full earnest with Team Land Rover Philippines being the first to load their 4x4, then came Team Sarawak, followed by Team Sabah 1Malaysia and later the West Malaysians. Its gonna be hot action this 18−24 Aug in Sanya, Hainan − China’s International Tourism Island.

9 July 2010: This year, the Wild West Group from Kanchanaburi,Thailand will be riding into another wild side, the last frontiers of Johor state. Their three well prepared 4x4 at Bundit Samrongkanok @ Aun’s workshop will be tested to the full come this 4 to 13 Dec. Leading the charge will be Rod Caldwell in his modified Toyota Surf (Team 139) with one Suzuki and Toyota Hilux, all super modified, practical, functional and very dependable trucks. 

19 June 2010: See the Russians in action from their own recording of last year’s RFC. In Russian language only, but action speaks louder than words. See how the biggest foreign contingent from the Russian Far East city of Vladivostok, Team Off-Road Xtracks tackled the transport and special stages in a style of their own. 7 June 2010: This coming 18 to 24 Aug, prepare yourselves for the biggest international 4x4 battle of China, taking place in Sanya, Hainan Island. This southernmost city of China will play host to participants and media from over 20 countries from 18 to 24 Aug. Hainan has been declared the International Tourism Island of China from this year, so expect a full razzmatazz welcome on Opening and Prologue SS days of 18 and 19 Aug in Sanya. Mean 4x4 machines, thrills, spills, drama, lights, camera and action plus a taste of culture, arts and entertainment from the longest & continuous civilization in the world – China!

19 May, 2010: From Kalimantan Barat (Indonesian Borneo), these “4x4 Invaders” are coming to test their machines, accessories, themselves and most of all, to promote their country to the rest of the off−road world in thsi year’s RFC. Even though relatively new to the scene, these “new blood” off−roaders from Pontianak (vampire) are no “push over” in this tough adventure sports as they have the skills and on the ground experience to match. Their figthting machines are two Toyota FJ40 and a Daihatsu Taft. “Ready for Action” is their battle cry, while we get ready for their invasion this 4−13 Dec.

3 May 2010: A press release on the recently completed Italian selections, which saw European extreme 4x4 teams battling it out for this year’s RFC 2010 in Malaysia.  With more action pix, this news complements news update 12 April on RFC Italian winners − Congrats. 28 APRIL 2010: In the northern hemisphere, April is the month when spring is in the air. However, the last remnant of winter might still try to linger on and make a comeback when the conditions are right. And if you are lucky (if coming from the tropics), then Mother Nature can shower you with a blessing of abundance snow flakes, just like in winter. That experience was simply magical and unforgettable as both Patrick Silvestri and I went up the mountains in northern Italy to pay a visit to Cortina just after the RFC selections (9-11 April). This is the place where the Hollywood movie “Cliff Hanger” was shot and it’s the Italian candidate for the 2015 Winter Olympics.
