1. This 10th anniversary event took place from 1 to 10 December, it was the most memorable "Great Escape" of them all, which involved the mobilization of the police, fire brigade, civil defense, army, VAT 69 commandos and state agencies in Kuala Krai, Gua Musang, Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu and Kuala Terengganu.
2. Participants were evacuated by 5 motorized boats provided by the Fire & Rescue Department and the marine Police based at Kuala Krai, then transferred by police truck to relief centre at Sek. Kebangsaan Laloh (school). All participants were rescued by 12 December, two days after the closing ceremony.
3. 46 competitor teams registered at the start of the Prologue Special Stages, 44 made it to campsite 1 at Lebir river and only 24 made it to the entrance of the Twilight Zone.
4. 345 participants in all categories were recorded from 32 nationalities.
5. Winch - Warn 8274 was the most popular electric winch while the PTO was the most popular among the non-electric type. Of the competitor teams, 18 used the electric winch as main recovery while 22 teams used the PTO. However, all of them used the electric winch as the second and/or third recovery unit.
6. Tyres - Most widely used was Simex Extreme Trekker followed by Silverstone and Super Swamper. Most uncommon brand was Tagom used by an Italian team 147.
7. Ssangyong Acyton was the first factory sponsored team in the event driven by Francis Khoo and Mohd Sharul (Malaysia).
8. Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) provided 4 Nissan Frontiers and 1 X-Trail for the organizer's usage in pre and post events to ferry supplies and guests.
9. Auto Research & Development Sdn Bhd (ARAD), a subsidiary of Tan Chong Holdings also showed off its patented portal axle during the pre-event at Corus Hotel, Kuala Lumpur and at the Prologue Special Stages at Kg Bintang, Setiu. This portal axle upgrade can give valuable uplift for 4x4s and very useful kit to have in any off-road situation.
10. Engines - 16 of the competitor teams used diesel while the rest used petrol. 70% of whole convoy used petrol engines.
11. China team from Lijiang (Yuelin He and Ruihong Zhou) traveled by land to reach Terengganu covering a return trip of 10,000kms. Yuelin He @ the Hawk without Wings was the first man without palms and fingers to have competed in the event. His team (152) was among the 24 teams that reached the Twilight Zone.
12. The other 24 teams were 158 and 159 from Poland, 145 and 146 from Italy, 136, 117, 113, 109, 116, 110, 156, 129, 138, 139 and 125 from Malaysia, 101 from Sri Lanka, 150 and 151 from Australia, 134 and 135 from Denmark, 152 from China, 148 from Indonesia and 133 from Germany.
13. The Twilight Zone of 20kms route to Sg Pelaggong was never completed by the 24 teams due impassable rivers, but it was an unforgettable experience. It was "one hell of a track,"" described as "to hell and back" episode by all who attempted it. The backtrack from campsite Sg Terong to Kg Miak, a distance of 17kms was another nightmare facing the wrath of nature, which required the ultimate struggle for everyone (competitors, media and officials).
14. Only 8 officials walked through the TZ and out to Terminator Hill, Nibong Bridge and Bamboo Forest and ending at Sg Puah, a distance of 38kms, drenched form head to toe for two days. They were Peter Taylor, Chris Hummer, Mustafari Mahmood, Mohd Sazali Amiruddin, Jinus Panis, Hamdan Sharif and Mohd Rizal Hashim Chin. They were the only ones to have completed the route out to Pengkalan Gawi.
15. 19 members of the press and touring adventurers went on foot and braved the rain, cold and extreme terrain to experience what it's like in the Twilight Zone. Even though they were turned back, they showed great camaraderie and guts all the way. They were : Liau See On (Malaysia), Hu Xioa Hui (China), Yu Yonggang (China), Ludmilla Stiebner (France), Georgios Fytas (Greece), Wing Lim Kar Yin (Malaysia), Kumar Hap (Sri Lanka), Peter Tsanov (Bulgaria), Patricia Mogni (Argentina), Dale Mendoza (Philippines), Ashok Kumar (India), Vivek Sharma (India), Nalin Premarathna (Sri Lanka), Ishan Akhry Ameer (Sri Lanka) and Morten Dam (Denmark), Arkadiusz Kwiecien (Poland), Lukasz Nawalany (Poland), Sanjeewa (Sri Lanka) and Hans Mudali (Indonesia).
16. The RFC scout/marshal teams (the X-Men) headed by Rate de Silva @ Atek had to be divided into four groups to coordinate their assignments. The Event HQ of Zawalan Razak, Jeremy Teh, Lim/Razak and Ayub was divided into 3 groups. The competition committee under Thomas Foo managed to get out just in time and coordinated the rescue efforts in Pengkalan Gawi and Sek Kebangasaan Laloh relief centre. The media convoy under Danial (Abdul Latiff), Lokmal and Afendi was also divided into its own sub-groups. The Army had two Land Rovers following the scout and event hq. The General Operations Force (GOF) also has personnel following the convoy for security and the Civil Defense unit provided the paramedics for the convoy.
17. The RFC Secretariat wishes to thank all state agencies and departments in Kelantan and Terengganu for the quick action to get the rescue operation going, especially the Army, Police, Fire & Rescue (Bomba) and Civil Defense (JPA3). Also wishes to thank all VIPs who attended the relief center at Laloh. The post-event operations to get the stranded 4x4s out of the jungle will continue.
