This has indeed been a special year - unprecedented monsoon rains and floodings on a wide scale. However, for all of you whose vehicles are still stranded inside or have your personal belongings in some of the official media vehicles, we understand your concern and we wish to inform that the RFC is taking all measures necessary. We have also come up with our own rescue mission to get the vehicles out of the tracks and to Caltex Station (Laloh). We hope that you will get your information directly from RFC and not rely on third party sources.
Position of vehicles
1) Most of the competitor vehicles are at Kg Miak (village) while only two are still stranded along the tracks further back (Ebir river).
2) We also have some competitor vehicles stranded after Kg Miak, about 5-7 kms outside the village - the tracks leading out to sawmill and Caltex station.
3) Most of all the media vehicles are also parked at Kg Miak except some still stranded at the mud pool after the Ebir River crossing.
Security
We have informed the local state police on the above situation and they are monitoring the going-ins and going outs from Kg Miak to Laloh (currently the only way in is by boat). We also asked for police patrol at Kg Miak area. However, nothing is foolproof in a situation like this, but rest assured that we have taken the necessary steps.
The Rescue Mission
Comprised of RFC Chie Scout (x-men) - Rate de Silva @ Atek as the overall commander and the scout/marshal team. They are the only authorized personnel roped in by RFC to get all the stranded vehicles out of the area to Laloh. No other persons are authorized to rescue any vehicles in the area. Should you know of any, please kindly inform us.
Part one - To get all stranded vehicles from Campsite 2 to Kg Miak.
Part two - To get all vehicles from Kg Miak and those along the tracks after
Kg Miak to Caltex Station at Laloh, depending on the flood waters.
Part one & two- Or a combination of both.
Current Situation (16 December)
Not good as the monsoon rain has continued to pour down unabated, and now there is widespread flooding in towns, villages and some trunk roads in Kelantan state. But, rest assured that the RFC rescue team will embark with the same vigour and passion as they have done in the event. The operation will take some time (Part 1 & 2) depending on the current weather conditions and flood waters. We shall be working with the state authorities to bring in heavy machinery to clear the obstacles once the flood waters have subsided to a level where our team can work. We hope you will understand the magnitude and difficulty of our rescue team under the present circumstances.
For now, please take note that our post-event plans are in operation and hope that you will bear with us in these unusual times.
Should you have any queries on this matter, we suggest that you only contact the RFC secretariat for the latest updates.
